Sophie is 12 years old and lives in Colorado. She is an avid horseback rider, skier, volleyball player, and 4H girl. Sophie’s Uncle died by suicide before she was born. Hope has helped her and her family. Sophie’s artwork inspired this year’s gala theme—“Extending the Hand of Hope.”
When I made this piece, I was about eight years old. It was an assignment for my second-grade art class, and I entered it in an art competition. The assignment was to complete a poster that had the shape of your hands holding a heart, with other designs surrounding the hands and heart. My project represents hope for myself, my family, and the world.
My hope for myself is to be a respectful, kind, honest, and helpful person to everyone. My hope for my family is for them to be healthy and happy, and continue working and getting along with each other. To me, hope means to wish for better things and better thoughts in the world. My hope for the world is for people to help others and be kind.
Join Sophie’s vision for a kinder, more helping world. Extend the hand of hope today. We invite you to share what hope means to you.
