The Mission of the Jordan Porco Foundation is to prevent suicide in the high school college and college entry student population that is often the end result of significant emotional disorders triggered by stress andor not recognized within the person until it is too late. We do this in the name and spirit of Jordan Matthew Porco who died by suicide in 2011. 2014 ANNUAL REPORT rememberingjordan.org Message from the President Dear Friends On behalf of the Board of Directors Clinical Advisors and Staff we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the donors volunteers and community partners who have generously supported our suicide prevention and mental health promotion programs on college campuses. Our growth and impact doubled from our previous year across Connecticut. In 2014 we welcomed the following new schools to our Fresh Check Day Network Gateway Norwalk and Three Rivers Community Colleges Central and Southern Connecticut State University and Connecticut College. As a component of an annual suicide prevention strategy many of the schools we worked with in 2013 integrated this programming as a tradition on their campus. The Jordan Porco Foundation hosted a total of 10 Fresh Check Days in 2014 impacting almost 5000 students. Our peer-to-peer messaging is creative interactive and focuses on identifying students at risk promoting social connectedness developing life skills and increasing help-seeking behaviors. Fresh Check Day is different from typical mental health programming because it creates a positive and relaxed environment to promote dialogue around mental health with a diverse group of students. The relaxed atmosphere of the program stimulates conversations around some of these more sensitive topics. Students realize that they are not alone in their struggles that their school cares about their mental health and that there is help available. Your continued support for the growth of this program is needed. Student success must be measured holistically not numerically. Sharing these values with students is an important step in changing the conversation about mental health for future generations of leaders. Please join us in continuing this mission across the United States. Together we can influence attitudes about mental health and make Fresh Check Day a national platform for change.
